The Libyan Administration for Missing Persons announced today that it discovered 42 bodies in a mass grave in the Libyan city of Sirte, a former stronghold of the Islamic State.
The announcement states that 42 bodies were exhumed from the school yard in the city.
Sirte, the birthplace of former Libyan president Muammar Gaddafi, was under the control of the Islamic State in 2015 and 2016.
Forces of the then United Nations-backed government expelled the group from the city in 2016.
Hundreds of suspected former Islamic State fighters remain in Libyan prisons, many awaiting trial.
