An earthquake measuring 5,7 on the Richter scale has struck northwestern Iran, and state television and medical officials say at least 276 people have been injured.
The epicenter was near the city of Hovi in the province of West Azerbaijan, transmissions H1.
The local medical service said that "276 people have been injured so far, including 68 who have been hospitalized for minor fractures."
The earthquake occurred 11,6 kilometers from Hovi, at a depth of ten kilometers, the US Geological Survey announced.
The German Research Center for Geophysics announced that a magnitude of 5,5 was measured not far from the triple border of Armenia, Azerbaijan and Iran.
