South Korea said North Korea had fired a ballistic missile toward its eastern waters, the latest in a series of weapons tests in recent days.
The Japanese government also says North Korea has fired a possible ballistic missile.
The launch, the North's sixth round of weapons tests in two weeks, came hours after the US and South Korea completed a new round of naval exercises off the east coast of the Korean peninsula.
North Korea's military warned today that the US redeployment of aircraft carriers near the Korean peninsula is causing a "huge negative wave" in regional security.
