Australia overturned the previous Government's decision to recognize West Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.
As reported by Reuters from this country, they added that the issue should be resolved within the peace negotiations between Israel and Palestine.
"Australia is committed to a solution where Israel and a future Palestinian state coexist in peace and security, within internationally recognized borders," Foreign Minister Penny Wong said during a media briefing.
She added that she will not support an approach that undermines this perspective.
Four years ago, the conservative coalition government led by Scott Morrison formally recognized West Jerusalem as the capital of Israel. At that time, he assessed that this respects commitment to a solution based on the two-state model and respect for relevant UN resolutions.
Israel considers a united Jerusalem as its eternal capital, while the Palestinians intend for the eastern part to be the capital of their future state.
