The authorities of the Chinese city of Shanghai today ordered mass testing of 1,3 million residents of the central district of Yangpu.
Those tested will not be allowed to leave their homes until the results are received.
Similar measures were introduced during the summer, when the entire city of 25 million inhabitants was finally shut down for two months.
The quarantine has caused food shortages and led to rare clashes between Hong Kong residents and the authorities.
China is not giving up its strict policy of suppressing the corona virus epidemic. Anti-covid measures have been introduced across the country, from Shanghai in the east to Tibet in the west. Protests due to quarantine measures were also reported in the country.
Today there were 1.337 new and mostly asymptomatic cases of corona virus infection in China. No deaths have been reported.
