An Iraqi man, whom Baghdad presented as the great-grandson of Saddam Hussein, was extradited from Lebanon to Iraq, where he was accused of participating in the massacre committed by the jihadists of the Islamic State in 2014, sources close to the Iraqi authorities announced today.
Abdallah Sabaui is the "nephew's son" of former Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein, the same sources said, adding that the Iraqi was extradited on Friday.
"He was accused of being a member of the Islamic State and of participating in the massacre in 2014 when the jihadists executed several hundred soldiers," the sources added.
According to Lebanese judicial sources, Sabaoui, born in 1994, was arrested on June 11, 2022.
The International Criminal Police (Interpol) issued a warrant for him because he was accused of participating in the massacre in Iraq. After his arrest in Lebanon, the Iraqi authorities requested his extradition.
Iraqi judicial authorities have already sentenced several dozen people to death for their participation in the massacre.
