Seven people, including the attacker, were killed in an armed attack on a Walmart supermarket in Chesapeake, Virginia, the city authorities announced today.
"Chesapeake police have confirmed that there were seven casualties, including the gunman, in a shooting that took place at Walmart last night," the city's administration said on Twitter.
Local officials said earlier that a gunman killed multiple people at a Walmart supermarket in Chesapeake overnight, and that the gunman was dead.
A police spokesman told reporters earlier that they received a call about the attack last night around 22.000 local time (4.00:XNUMX this morning CET) and that the intervention teams immediately entered the facility as soon as they arrived.
The spokesman said that he could not say how the attacker died, but that he did not believe that the police had fired.
According to some reports, the shooting stopped when police arrived at the store.
The shooting at the supermarket happened 48 hours before Thanksgiving, a major holiday when family gatherings are common in the US. It happened only three days after the attack in a gay bar in the American state of Colorado, when five people were killed and 17 were wounded.
