Thirteen bison were killed or put to sleep due to serious injuries after a truck hit the herd on a poorly lit road in Montana, not far from Yellowstone National Park in the US, authorities said today.
The police said that the driver of the truck and the passengers of the other two vehicles involved in the accident were not injured.
Bison often congregate on the roads in winter in that area because it is easier for them to go there when the snow is deep.
They are difficult to spot at night because they are dark brown and because their eyes do not reflect light like the eyes of deer and some other large animals.
