Today, Beijing condemned the introduction of mandatory covid testing in a dozen countries for travelers from China and warned that it could introduce "countermeasures".
"Some countries have imposed entry restrictions aimed solely at Chinese travelers. This has no scientific basis and some practices are unacceptable," said Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning.
She added that China could take "reciprocal countermeasures".
China has kept its borders largely closed to foreign nationals since 2020.
It has not issued tourist visas for almost three years and has a mandatory quarantine upon arrival in the country.
That isolation measure will be lifted on January 8, but the coronavirus test no older than 48 hours before arrival on Chinese territory will remain in force. The decision coincides with the expected re-allowing of Chinese to travel abroad after three years.
As a precaution, a dozen countries around the world have decided to introduce a mandatory PCR test for travelers from China, which has been hit by a large jump in the number of people infected with the virus since it lifted strict measures related to the corona in December.
Morocco has flatly banned all travelers from China from entering its territory, regardless of nationality.
