The first attempt by the private Chinese company "Landspace" to send a rocket into space failed, the company announced.
The Beijing-based company said late last night that the first and second separation stages of the ZQ-1 rocket were operating normally, but that something had gone wrong in the final, third stage.
It is the first three-stage rocket built by a private company in China.
A video released by a Chinese news site shows the 19-meter rocket taking off in clear weather on Saturday.
Landspejs stated through his account on social networks that at the beginning the separation was normal, but that something "abnormal happened after the second phase".
Chinese media reports that the rocket was carrying a satellite for state-run CCTV.
