Several hundred supporters of former Brazilian far-right president Jair Bolsonaro stormed the main government institutions in Brazil tonight - Congress, the Supreme Court and the presidential palace.
According to the photos circulating on social networks, the protesters have committed material damage.
They are protesting the return to power of leftist President Luis Inacio Lula da Silva, who defeated Bolsonaro in the October 30 runoff.
Brazilian police used tear gas to prevent protesters from entering parliament earlier today.
The incident happened a week after Da Silva took over as president. Bolsonaro left the country two days before the end of his mandate, boycotting the inauguration.
Da Silva had two presidential terms (2003-2010).
