Officials of the World Health Organization (WHO) have asked the President of Syria Bashar al-Assad to allow the opening of more border crossings with Turkey and thus enable the delivery of aid to the area in the north of Syria, affected by the earthquake.
"We asked (Assad) to allow additional cross-border movement through access points, and he replied that he was open to that possibility," WHO Director Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said at a briefing in Geneva, according to Reuters.
On Monday, two border crossings were opened, through which humanitarian convoys enter Syria and deliver aid to the vulnerable northwest of that country.

"That's why all the rescue teams are being evacuated and are returning to their countries. Our teams are safe and sound and are also returning."

In Turkey, in the earthquakes that hit the border area of that country with Syria last week, a total of 50.576 buildings were completely destroyed or severely damaged.
The Ministry of Urban Planning stated in the report that buildings that are at risk must be demolished as soon as possible.
As Al Jazeera Balkans reports, officials have so far inspected more than 387 buildings in the affected regions.

NATO will send more than a thousand containers to Turkey to help provide shelter to earthquake survivors, the alliance announced.
"That semi-permanent shelter can accommodate at least two people displaced by the earthquake in Turkey," said the NATO Joint Forces Command in Naples, reports Al Jazeera Balkans.
NATO stated on Twitter that the containers, which are currently in Taranto, Italy, will be sent to Turkey next week.
United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres previously sent an appeal to raise $397 million to help victims of the earthquake in Syria.
Those funds, as he stated, are needed to save the lives of around five million Syrians, and will be sufficient for a period of three months.
"A week after the devastating earthquakes, millions of people across the region are struggling to survive, homeless in freezing temperatures. We are doing everything we can to change that, but much more is needed," Guterres said in New York.
In Kahramanmaras, a 45-year-old woman was pulled from the ruins 222 hours after the earthquake, reports TRT.
The number of victims of the earthquake in Turkey and Syria is increasing every day - according to the latest information, more than 41.000 people have lost their lives. Almost 100.000 were injured. The earthquake affected 13 million people, including about seven million children. More than 200.000 people participate in search and rescue.
TRT television reported that a 77-year-old woman was rescued from the rubble in the Turkish city of Adiyaman, about 212 hours after the devastating earthquake on February 6.
