On March 24, the US Treasury Department's Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) blocked the assets of three entities and nine individuals, as well as the presidential plane of Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko.
Those measures are based on sanctions imposed on individuals and entities in Belarus in response to the brutal crackdown against the pro-democracy movement and civil society following the fraudulent presidential election in August 2020, the ministry said.
These actions also emphasize the readiness of the US to call the regime in Minsk to account for its complicity in the unjustified war of the Russian Federation against Ukraine, the statement said.
"The authoritarian Lukashenko regime relies on state-owned enterprises and key officials to generate significant revenue that enables repressive actions against the Belarusian people," said Treasury Undersecretary for Terrorism and Financial Intelligence Brian Nelson.
"We remain committed to imposing costs on the Lukashenko regime for its suppression of democracy and support for Putin's war (in Ukraine)," Nelson said.
At the same time, the State Department announced visa restrictions for an additional 14 people, including regime officials.
New members of the Central Election Commission (CEC) of Belarus were also added to the list of sanctions, due to the alleged fraudulent presidential elections in August 2020.
The CEC played a role in banning opposition candidates, denying access to polling observers and certifying incorrect vote counts. OFAC previously imposed sanctions against some of its members due to election fraud, and now it has added six new names.
The Boeing 737 used as the presidential plane of Alexander Lukashenko, which is said to be used by Lukashenko for personal and family travel, has also been sanctioned by the new US measures.
All assets of sanctioned persons in the US are now frozen, and financial institutions and other persons carrying out transactions or activities with sanctioned entities and individuals may themselves be exposed to these measures.
