A very rare, pink diamond, whose value is estimated at 35 million dollars, will be offered at auction in June, the Sotheby's auction house announced today.
The 10,57-carat "impurity-free" gemstone, which was extracted in 2019 from a mine in Botswana, weighed 23,78 carats gross and will be sold on June 8 in New York, which is considered the International Center for the Arts and Luxury Market.
The sale of the diamond, called "Eternal Pink", will be during a special week of jewelry sales.
"It is a diamond that is the rarest of the rare, the stone of which is without comparison," said Sotheby's head of jewelry sales, Alexander Eben.
It is valued at about $3,3 million per carat, or slightly more than $35 million, which represents the highest estimate per carat for a gemstone offered on the market, he said.
The current record for the price obtained for the sale of a pink diamond was achieved in Hong Kong in 2017, at $71,2 million. And the pink Williamson diamond was also sold in Hong Kong in 2022 for $57,7 million.
