Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov warned US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson that imposing new sanctions on North Korea would be dangerous. Lavrov and Tillerson spoke by phone on Wednesday evening about the situation after Pyongyang's latest missile test and called for dialogue, the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced. The heads of diplomacy of Russia and the United States condemned North Korea for launching a ballistic missile capable of carrying a nuclear warhead, which flew over the territory of Japan. Lavrov told Tillerson that Russia urges all parties to avoid a military solution to the crisis and added that Moscow believes that any new sanctions against North Korea would be "counterproductive and dangerous." US President Donald Trump wrote on Twitter yesterday that talks with North Korea are "not a solution", implying that the search for a diplomatic solution with Pyongyang is doomed to failure.
