At least two people have died, thousands of flights have been canceled or delayed, and more than a million households have been left without power due to a strong storm accompanied by hail, which hit the eastern United States.
The victims are a 15-year-old boy from South Carolina who died when a tree fell on him while getting out of his car and a 28-year-old man in Alabama who was struck by lightning, Voice of America reports.
Tornado warnings were in place for 10 states from Tennessee to New York, and the US Weather Service said the warning covers 29,5 million people.
Until last night, more than 2.600 flights were canceled, and almost 7.900 were delayed, according to data from the website Flytaver.
In Maryland, the weather service has issued a flash flood warning for today.
Trees and power lines fell in several countries, and in some places whole roofs of houses were blown off, the media reported.
