Chinese President Xi Jinping has said that changes in the world are taking place "in ways like never before", bringing human society to a critical point.
He said this in a speech read by Chinese Minister of Commerce Wang Wentao at the 2023 BRICS Business Forum.
The speech states that the world today has become a community with a shared future and that people definitely do not yearn for a new Cold War or a small exclusive bloc, but instead want an open, inclusive, clean and beautiful world that enjoys lasting peace, universal security and shared prosperity.
"Changes in the world are taking place in ways never before, bringing human society to a critical point," Xi warned in a speech titled Advancing Solidarity and Cooperation to Overcome Risks and Challenges and Build a Better World Together, according to China Media Group ( CMG).
He added that the course of history will be shaped by the decisions that will be made.
"Should we strive for cooperation and integration or just succumb to division and confrontation? Should we work together to maintain peace and stability, or just sleepwalk into the abyss of a new Cold War? Should we embrace prosperity, openness and inclusiveness, or should we allow hegemonic and bullying acts to plunge us into depression? Should we deepen mutual trust through exchange and mutual learning, or should we allow arrogance and prejudice to cloud our consciousness?" Xi added.
The Chinese president added that it is necessary to promote development and prosperity for all, and that many developing markets have succeeded in gaining independence with perseverance, hard work and enormous sacrifices.
"We need to achieve universal security. China is ready to jointly implement the Global Security Initiative with everyone else. The collective rise of emerging markets and developing countries represented by BRICS is fundamentally changing the global landscape," he said, adding that more than 20 countries are knocking on the door. Xi pointed out that China enjoys several distinct advantages - a socialist market economy in terms of system, a huge market in terms of demand, a full-fledged industrial system in terms of supply, and an abundant, high-caliber workforce and entrepreneurs in terms of human resources.
He also emphasized that the Chinese economy has strong resilience, enormous potential and great vitality, and that the fundamentals of maintaining China's long-term growth will remain unchanged.
