At least 55 people were injured in Typhoon Saola, and authorities said around 500 Hong Kong residents had been moved to shelters.
As Hina reports, typhoon Saola reached the coasts of southern China and Hong Kong on Friday evening, bringing heavy rain and gusts of wind.
The Chinese Meteorological Service warned that Saola could become the strongest typhoon in the region since 1949.
As of Friday evening, Hong Kong closed all schools and kindergartens, and most flights were canceled.
By Saturday morning, the situation had calmed down somewhat, but the local weather service still urged the public to remain vigilant.
