At least 62 people died in the magnitude 7,6 earthquake that hit the western part of Japan, according to the new toll announced this morning by local authorities.
The rescue operation and the search for survivors is ongoing.
The authorities warned of heavy rain throughout the day and possible landslides in the threatened area.
The previous toll from the earthquake, which occurred on Monday, was 48 dead.
A series of strong earthquakes hit the western part of Japan, and the strongest of magnitude 7,6 was on the northeastern tip of the Noto Peninsula, in the north of Ishikawa department.
