Pakistan recalled its ambassador in Tehran, after two children were killed in Iranian airstrikes.
Iran carried out airstrikes in Pakistan's southwestern Baluchistan province on Tuesday, claiming they were targeting bases belonging to a militant Sunni separatist group.
As reported by Radio Free Europe, Pakistan condemned the attack as a "flagrant violation" of the country's airspace and announced that two children were killed in the attack.
"Last night's unprovoked and flagrant violation of Pakistan's sovereignty by Iran is a violation of international law, as well as the goals and principles of the United Nations charter," said Pakistan's Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mumtaz Zahra Baloh.
The militant group Jaish al-Adl (Army of Justice), which has spread across Afghanistan, Iran and Pakistan, advocates an independent Balochistan.
Relations between Iran and nuclear-armed Pakistan have long been plagued by suspicions over militant attacks.
The Iranian attack, as stated by RSE, threatens to further fuel violence in the Middle East, which is already destabilized by the war between Israel and Hamas in the Gaza Strip.
