North Korean leader Kim Jong Un oversaw the testing of two cruise missiles, launched from a submarine, the country's state news agency KCNA reported late this evening.
The rehearsal comes against a backdrop of rising tensions between Seoul and Pyongyang.
KCNA reported that the cruise missiles flew into the sky over the East Sea to simulate firing on an island target.
The South Korean military announced today that it had detected cruise missiles fired near the waters off the North Korean city of Sinpo.
