At least 64 people died in the forest fires that ravaged the Valparaiso region in central Chile, the country's president Gabrijel Borić said today, expressing fear that the number of victims will be higher.
"Unfortunately, I can confirm that 64 people died. That number will increase," said the Chilean president who visited the affected areas today.
Firefighters have been putting out dozens of fires since Friday. Between 3.000 and 6.000 houses were damaged or destroyed. About 43.000 hectares of forests were destroyed.
