Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk said yesterday that Republican senators in the United States should be ashamed of themselves for blocking the $60 billion aid package to Ukraine, saying that former US President Ronald Reagan is "turning over in his grave."
“Dear Republican US Senators. Ronald Reagan, who helped millions of us regain freedom and independence, must be turning in his grave today. Shame on you," Tusk wrote on the X social network.
Poland has been one of Ukraine's staunchest allies since Russia invaded the country in 2022.
Ronald Reagan, a Republican, who was the 40th president of the United States and served from 1981 to 1989, was known for his harsh attitude towards the Soviet Union, which he described as an "evil empire".
The favorite for the Republican presidential nomination, Donald Trump, has said on several occasions that if he is re-elected as president, he will ask the European allies to compensate the United States for about 200 billion dollars of ammunition that was sent to Ukraine.
