A New York man opened fire inside a sporting goods store in New York's Times Square, wounding a female tourist in the leg and clashing with store security before fleeing, police said.
As he fled, he fired at the police who were chasing him through Manhattan. The attacker fled to the metro station and the police are looking for him. He is dressed in white and is between 15 and 20 years old.
The injured tourist is 37 years old and is expected to recover.
"We are still looking for the man who fired the shots. He shot at the officers twice and wounded an innocent female tourist in the leg," NYPD Chief of Patrol John Schell said.
The incident happened Thursday night at the store on the corner of 42nd Street and Broadway Avenue, which is always full of people. The attacker first began placing merchandise in his bag, which was then taken from him by store security, Schell said.
At that moment, the man took out a gun and shot at the security guard, but missed and wounded the tourist. Together with another person, he started to run away.
That person was arrested a few streets away, but the gunman continued to run and shoot at police. He then fled to the metro station where he was last seen.
Due to the incident, streets in downtown New York were temporarily closed. Police are now offering $10.000 to anyone who helps find the attacker.
