North Korean leader Kim Jong Un on Wednesday inspected the field training of troops at a major military operating base in the country's western region and ordered increased readiness for war, North Korea's state news agency KCNA reported today.
The tour of the base, the location of which has not been identified, comes after the start of annual combined military exercises by US and South Korean forces on Monday, which has doubled the number of troops compared to last year.
Kim said the military must "dynamically set a new peak of intensifying war preparations in accordance with the requirements of the prevailing situation," KCNA reported.
"Our military should ... constantly intensify real war exercises with the aim of rapidly improving its combat capabilities for perfect war readiness," the agency reported Kim's words to the soldiers.
KCNA did not say whether Kim was directly referring to the US and South Korean military exercises. He inspected troops performing real-life maneuvers under conditions simulating real war, the agency announced.
