The European Union announced today that it will send humanitarian aid of 20 million euros to Haiti.
The impoverished Caribbean country has been mired in deadly gang violence alongside a political crisis that began in 2021 with the assassination of President Jovenel Moise.
"The level of gang violence is unprecedented and drastically increases humanitarian needs across the country," said European Commission spokesman Balaž Ujvari.
Haiti's prime minister, Ariel Henri, who is not allowed to return to the country, has announced his resignation despite being in office illegally, but there are no signs that this will end the crisis and powerlessness that has killed hundreds of people in the past few weeks.
