North Korea fired a ballistic missile towards the Sea of Japan, the South Korean military announced today.
The launch came less than two weeks after state media in Pyongyang reported that North Korean leader Kim Jong Un had overseen a successful test of a solid-fuel engine for a "new type of medium-range hypersonic missile."
Japan's Kyodo news agency reported that the launch "appears" to have been carried out and that the missiles fell into the sea.
Today's launch is North Korea's third ballistic missile test since the beginning of the year.
