The Russian Soyuz MS-24 space capsule safely delivered three cosmonauts to Kazakhstan today on their return from a mission in the International Space Station (ISS) in orbit around the Earth.

The Soyuz with Russian Oleg Novitsky, American Loral O'Hara and Marina Vasilevska from Belarus made a slow parachute landing southeast of the city of Dzhezkazgan.

O'Hara arrived at the ISS on September 15, 2023, and was there for 204 days, NASA said. Novitsky and Vasilevskaya flew into space recently, on March 23.

The ISS is now crewed by four Americans and three Russians.

The ISS, which was a symbol of international cooperation after the Cold War, has been one of the last areas of cooperation between Russia and the West since the beginning of Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

While Moscow intends to end that cooperation, the US space agency NASA and its partners hope to keep the ISS operational until 2030.
