The leader of the Israeli opposition, Yair Lapid, today accused the Prime Minister of Israel, Benjamin Netanyahu, of being a crybaby and a coward after a two-hour debate was held in the Government on Sunday about the incitement to violence against him.

Lapid said that violence and threats to the prime minister are unacceptable and harmful to democracy and must be prosecuted, but that Netanyahu is not a victim.

"Every soldier in Gaza is under a greater threat than him, every IDF (Israel Defense Forces) fighter in Jenin (in the West Bank) is in greater danger than him. The man who set up the machinery of poison, who brought in foreign billionaires and started the machinery of incitement which is slowly taking over all the media in Israel, complains that they are inciting against him," said Lapid.

After the assassination attempt on former US President Donald Trump on Saturday in Pennsylvania, Israeli Cabinet Secretary Yossi Fuchs showed video clips at a regular meeting of ministers showing critics of the government who, he said, were "inciting against the prime minister".

It was then discussed for two hours and the ministers blamed the judicial system, the police and the attorney general for the allegedly unchecked violent speech in public against Netanyahu and his family.

The Israeli opposition leader said there was no such discussion about the 101 victims of the Hamas attack on Kibbutz Beri in southern Israel on October 7 last year.

Lapid read a threatening letter to the journalists in which he mentioned the death and illness in his family and asked before the meeting of his center party Yesh Atid (There is a future) if he had ever talked about it and held special discussions.

"Yes, there are threats and incitement. It's a terrible and sad part of the world we live in. Anyone who reaches a high position goes through that," said the Israeli opposition leader.

Lapid recalled that the son of former Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett received a letter with a bullet and threats to his life, and said that he did not remember Netanyahu saying anything at the time.
