Last night, former US President Donald Trump accepted the Republican Party's presidential nomination for the November 5 election at the conclusion of the national convention in Milwaukee and declared that he would win.
"We will make America great again very soon," said the former US president, using his campaign slogan.
"I am running for president of the whole of America, not half of it - because there is no victory in the triumph of one part," Trump said during an hour-and-a-half-long address.
In his first speech since Saturday's assassination attempt, at a party rally in the state of Pennsylvania, he said he was speaking with a message of confidence, strength and hope.
"In four months, we will achieve a great victory. We will deal with security problems, we need to resolve divisions - because we share a destiny: we either rise together or we fall," Trump told the crowd in the city of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, according to the Voice of America.
"I am here to present a vision for the entire nation, for every citizen, whether you are young or old, male or female, Democrat, Republican or independent, black, white, Asian or Hispanic: I extend to you the hand of faithfulness and friendship," said the Republican presidential candidate.
Before his address, Trump was joined by former First Lady Melania Trump and Ivanka Trump, his older daughter and former senior adviser. It was the first time they joined him at the convention, which lasted a total of four days. They did not address the gathering.
Trump, in an address during which he stated that he will only mention the current US President Joe Biden, his likely Democratic opponent, by one name, said that the United States needs a government that will be at the service of citizens like never before.
"Our mission is righteous and nothing will distract us from it. I will never stop fighting for you and our great country. I will give everything for our nation. We will turn the current situation around very quickly. The purpose of elections is to make our country better and great again. We must not demonize each other for political reasons, the Democratic Party needs to stop abusing the legal system and labeling its dissenters as opponents of democracy," said Trump - alluding to the legal proceedings currently being conducted against him - claiming that these are politically motivated trials whose is to prevent his re-election.
He pointed out that a federal court in Florida had dismissed the case against him based on what he said was a false claim and told Democrats that if they want to unite the country, they should drop the years-long persecution.
He was speaking on the occasion of the dismissal of indictments for improper storage of classified government documents at his Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida after he left office as president.
He praised the engagement of the administration he led in the first term, saying that it recorded successes and was exposed to problems due to the covid-19 pandemic, which it was forced to deal with. He announced that in the second term he will influence the strengthening of the economy.
"No one will question our strength. We will restore patriotism, peace, harmony and stability in the world. In order to achieve this, we need to save this country from an incompetent government. The most important elections are ahead of us. Our people are broken. We have an illegal immigration crisis. An invasion is currently taking place on our southern border. International crises are happening in Europe and the Middle East. The planet is on the brink of World War III. Changes are needed, and the current administration is not up to the challenge. Our leadership is unreliable, except when it comes to cheating in elections. I will end inflation, energy will become cheaper, we will pump oil, reduce taxes and pay off debts," said Trump.
He recalled earlier statements that during his mandate the United States was not a participant in wars, criticizing President George Bush Jr., Barack Obama, as well as the current American authorities for incompetent foreign policy management and interventionism.
He repeated his claims that the Russian invasion of Ukraine would not have happened if he had led the United States, and that he knew how the conflict could be ended quickly.
“I can end a war with one phone call. We're going to strengthen the military, we're going to build a defense structure across America," Trump said.
Also, during the rally, he spoke about the attempted assassination of which he was the target the previous Saturday during the Republican rally in Pennsylvania.
"I shouldn't have been here with you, but God was on my side," Trump said - noting that he would only speak about the attack once, because the experience was too painful.
"I boldly began the address, talking about the great performance of our administration on the southern border. Near me, slightly to the right, was a screen that displayed a diagram of our results. I moved a little and heard a piercing sound, feeling something hit my right ear. I thought it was a bullet, I touched it and felt blood. I knew we were under attack. Bullets continued to fly around me, and brave Secret Service agents rushed the stage. They jumped on me and protected me. I felt safe, because God was on my side," said Trump, who estimated that he was saved by not moving his head during the speech.
He also asked that those present pay respect to Kori Koperatore, a former firefighter who was killed at a Republican party rally in Pennsylvania.
"There is no greater love than to lay down one's life for others, that is the spirit that built America in the darkest times. That is the love that will bring America back to the top of human achievements and greatness. That is what we need," Trump said.
During his address, he approached the firefighter's uniform and equipment and kissed his helmet.
"He was just a good man. He protected his family from bullets," Trump said, asserting that 6,3 million dollars had been collected for the victims' families in the previous days.
By accepting the party's nomination, Trump formally became the Republican nominee in the November election, his third nomination.
