Last year was the deadliest for the global humanitarian community, and the war between Israel and Hamas in the Gaza Strip could cause even more deaths for aid workers this year, the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) said.
According to OCHA, 280 humanitarian workers in 33 countries died last year, which is twice as many as the previous year, reports Fonet.
This is an increase of 137 percent compared to 2022, when 118 humanitarian workers died, OCHA stated and said that the level of violence against humanitarian workers is unacceptable.
