The International Criminal Court (ICC) announced today that Mongolia is under an obligation to arrest Russian President Vladimir Putin if he comes to visit, which is planned for September 3, reports the British BBC.
It will be the first time that Putin visits a country that is a member of the ICC since the court issued an arrest warrant for him in March 2023.
Fadi el-Abdallah, the spokesman of the ICC, said today that Mongolia, like other signatories of the ICC, has an "obligation to cooperate". This includes complying with arrest warrants.
The warrant states that the crimes were committed in Ukraine since February 24, 2022, when Russia invaded.
Moscow denied the accusations, and Kremlin spokesman Dimitry Peskov said that Russia has excellent relations with Mongolia and that the visit is being carefully planned.
