A shooting at a Georgia high school left four people dead and nine others wounded, police told the X Network.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation announced that police responded to Appalachian High School in Winder, Georgia, after reports of a shooting.
The attacker was arrested and is alive, and reports that he was "neutralized" are false, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation emphasizes.
Appalachian High School has about 1.900 students and is the second largest in Berow County.
Aerial video footage shows that there were several ambulances in front of the school.
Jacob King, a sophomore and football player, said he was in history class when he heard about 10 gunshots.
He says he didn't believe the shooting was real at first, until he heard police yelling at someone to drop their weapon. His class was then taken out of the classroom and in the hallway they saw that the police had surrounded a wounded student.
Ashley Inoh received a text message from her younger brother, a student at Apalachi High School, in which he wrote: "Just so you know, I love you."
When she asked what happened, the brother and sister, who is also a student at that school, told her that there had been a shooting.
The sheriff's office said police and emergency services responded to the scene at 10:23 a.m. local time following a report of a mass shooting.
The FBI's Atlanta office also sent agents to the school to assist local law enforcement.
Details about the suspect and the motive for this crime are not yet known.
The White House was notified of the incident, and Georgia Governor Brian Kemp said he had "directed all available resources to Appalachia High School" and urged all Georgia residents to join him in "praying for the safety of the students of Burrough County, and the entire states".
