A gunman killed three Israeli civilians today in an attack near the Allenby Bridge, a border crossing with Jordan, before security forces killed him, Israeli authorities said, according to Reuters.
"A terrorist approached the Allenby Bridge area from Jordan in a truck, got out of the truck and opened fire on Israeli security forces operating on the bridge," the Israeli military said.
The statement added that the security forces eliminated the terrorist, and that three Israeli civilians were declared dead as a result of the attack.
Reuters reports that this border crossing is also known as the King Hussein Bridge and is located halfway between Amman, the capital of Jordan, and Jerusalem, north of the Dead Sea.
Reuters reports, citing a Jordanian official, that Jordan has closed the King Hussein Bridge crossing with the occupied West Bank while it investigates the incident.
The incident occurred in a commercial cargo area under Israeli control where Jordanian trucks unload cargo entering the occupied West Bank from Jordan.
