American pop megastar Taylor Swift endorsed Democratic Vice President Kamala Harris late Tuesday, following a televised presidential debate between Harris and Republican former President Donald Trump.
In a post on Instagram, Swift said she will vote for US vice president in the Nov. 5 US election, which polls show will be highly contested.
Taylor Swift's post included a photo of the singer with a cat, and her statement was signed "cat lover with no kids," in an apparent allusion to remarks previously made by Trump's running mate JD Vance. Vance previously described leading Democrats as "a bunch of childless cat lovers" in an interview.
"I will be voting for Kamala Harris and Tim Volz in the 2024 presidential election. I am voting for @kamalaharris because she is fighting for rights and things that I believe need a warrior to defend," Swift said in her post.
Kamala Harris has a lot of support in the entertainment industry. Many Hollywood actors, producers and directors have endorsed her, saying they see Harris, who was born in California, as their candidate.
In August, Trump posted a fake picture on social media of Swift asking people to vote for him in the November election.
Swift mentioned this in her post late Tuesday, saying that Trump's move "really spoke to my fears about artificial intelligence and the dangers of spreading misinformation." She added: "It made me realize that I have to be very transparent about my real plans for this election as a voter."
Kamala Harris's VP candidate Tim Volz was on MSNBC when Taylor Swift's endorsement was announced. "Get things moving," Volc said in an appeal to MSNBC's "Swifties" when asked about her endorsement. "I am incredibly grateful," he said, as reported by Hina.
