At a pro-Israel rally in suburban Boston last night, a bystander was shot during a fight after he clashed with a group of protesters, authorities said.
The police were called at 18.40:XNUMX p.m. to the scene of a small rally in Newton.
Words were exchanged before a bystander quickly crossed the street and tackled one of the protesters, Middlesex County District Attorney Merijan Rajan said.
"A fight ensued. During that fight, a person who came across the street was shot by a member of the protesting group," Rajan said at a press conference on Thursday.
Scott Hayes, of Framingham, was arrested on charges of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and violating a constitutional right by causing injury.
The injured passer-by is in the hospital with life-threatening injuries, Rajan said.
Police have asked witnesses to provide investigators with photos or videos of the confrontation.
