Pyongyang tested a ballistic missile with a large warhead

North Korea has announced that it has fired a strategic cruise missile as well as a tactical ballistic missile capable of delivering a "super large" warhead.

A few days ago, North Korean leader Kim Jong Un conducted "test firings" of "a new Hwasnogfo-11-Da-4.5 tactical ballistic missile and an improved strategic cruise missile," North Korea's official KCNA news agency reported.

North Korea, which has nuclear weapons, has carried out dozens of missile launches this year.

According to experts, this could have something to do with the assumption that North Korea is sending ammunition and missiles to Moscow for the war in Ukraine.

The West accuses Pyongyang of supplying weapons to Russia, which Pyongyang denies.

"The new-type tactical ballistic missile was equipped with a four-and-a-half-ton super-large conventional warhead in accordance with its design," the North Korean agency added.

The South Korean military described Wednesday's firing as a salvo of short-range ballistic missiles that traveled about 400 kilometers.

KCNA added today that the missile launch was aimed at testing the accuracy of the medium-range strike of 320 kilometers and the explosive power of the super-large warhead.

The test was necessary for "state security," North Korean leader Kim Jong Un said, according to KCNA.

"The military and political situation in the region indicates that work on strengthening the military capacity of self-defense should be a priority," added Kim.
