US military officials released a new video of the interaction between a Russian and an American plane near Alaska on September 23.

In a video released on Monday, a Russian Su-35 fighter jet can be seen approaching an American F-16 and passing only a few meters away.

In recent weeks, Russian planes have repeatedly entered Alaska's air defense identification zone, right next to US sovereign airspace.

For example, eight Russian military planes and four ships, including two submarines, approached Alaska recently while Russia and China were conducting joint exercises – but did not enter US space.

The event drew criticism from US military officials as well as from Alaska's Republican US Senator Dan Sullivan.

"The conduct of one Russian Su-35 was unsafe, it was unprofessional and it put everyone at risk -- it's not what you would see in a professional military," said Gen. Gregory Guillot, commander of the North American Air Defense Command (NORAD) and US Northern Command.

Republican Senator Sullivan said that this move by Russia is another argument for strengthening the US military presence in Alaska and the Arctic.

The Associated Press reached out to the Russian Embassy for comment, but there was no response.
