Iran's Civil Aviation Authority has banned airplane passengers from carrying pagers and walkie-talkies, Isna news agency announced today.
This was influenced by the recent wave of detonations in Lebanon of explosives planted in these devices attributed to Israel.
"All communication devices, except telephones, are also prohibited in cargo planes," Isna reported, citing civil aviation administration spokesman Jafar Jazerl.
Simultaneous pager blasts by Hezbollah, a pro-Iranian Lebanese Islamist movement, left dozens dead and thousands wounded in Lebanon on September 17.
Pagers and walkie-talkies enable the reception of messages and sound warnings using their own radio frequency, outside of mobile phone networks, without the risk of eavesdropping.
The largest airline in the Middle East, Dubai-based Emirates, made a similar decision in early October.
On October 1, Iran launched about 200 missiles at Israel, and Israel promised to retaliate.
