Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei today threatened Israel and America with a "devastating response" for attacks on Iran and its allies.
"The enemies, whether it is the Zionist regime or the United States of America (US), will definitely receive a devastating response to what they are doing to Iran and the Axis of Resistance," Khamenei said in a video released by Iranian state media.
The supreme leader did not specify the time of the attack, nor its scope.
Iranian officials are threatening to launch another attack on Israel, following its attack in late October that targeted military bases and killed at least five people.
Khamenei was speaking today on Students' Day, which commemorates the incident on November 4, 1978, when Iranian soldiers opened fire on students protesting the Shah's rule at Tehran University.
In the shooting, several students were killed and wounded, after which there was an escalation that resulted in the Shah's flight from the country and the Islamic Revolution in 1979.
This Sunday, Iran will also mark the 45th anniversary of the hostage crisis at the American embassy. The invasion of Islamist students and the taking of hostages on November 4, 1979 at the US embassy led to a crisis that lasted 444 days and cemented the decades-long enmity between Tehran and Washington.
