Several hundred people gathered tonight in Tel Aviv to condemn the dismissal of Israel's Defense Minister Yoav Galant, Agence France-Presse reported from the scene.
Demonstrators with Israeli flags and drums blocked the main avenue in Tel Aviv and lit a fire on the road after the announcement of Galant's dismissal.
Those gathered are demanding that the Israeli government reach an agreement with the Palestinian movement Hamas to release the hostages still being held in the Gaza Strip.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced earlier today that he is dismissing Galant, his longtime rival in the conservative Likud party, citing a lack of mutual trust as the reason.
Galant will be replaced by Minister of Foreign Affairs Israel Katz, and Minister without portfolio Gideon Sarr will replace Katz as head of diplomacy, Israeli media reported.
