Russian President Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump said today that they are ready to continue contact, after the victory of the Republicans in the presidential elections in the USA.
"If someone wants to get in touch again, I have nothing against it. I'm ready," Putin said at a forum about Trump.
"I would like to take the opportunity to congratulate him on his election as the president of the USA," the Russian president added.
Tonight, during an interview with the American television network NBC, Trump also expressed his willingness to talk to Putin.
"I think we will talk," Trump said, adding that he "certainly" has already talked to 70 foreign leaders since winning the election on Tuesday.
Before the election, Putin said he would prefer to see Joseph Biden, then Kamala Harris in the White House, considering them more "predictable" for Moscow than the Republican candidate.
According to a book published by the famous journalist Bob Woodward, Trump has secretly spoken with Putin up to seven times since he left the White House in 2021.
The Republican also allegedly secretly sent coronavirus tests to his Russian counterpart Putin while he was in the White House and amid the coronavirus pandemic.
Putin said today that he was impressed with how Trump behaved during the assassination attempt on him in July.
"It turned out that he (Trump) is a brave person," the Russian president said.
"People show who they are in extraordinary circumstances. That's where a man reveals himself. And he behaved, in my opinion, very correctly, bravely. Like a man," Putin said.
Trump has been criticized on several occasions for his praise of Putin.
