The newly elected President of the United States of America (USA) Donald Trump on Thursday made his first cabinet appointment after his decisive election victory.
He appointed the manager of his election campaign, Suzi Wiles, as the new chief of staff in the White House, making her the first woman in US history to head the cabinet.
Trump's resounding victory over Democrat Kamala Harris is already shaking up American and world politics, just two days after Election Day and two and a half months before he returns to the White House.
Trump's first Cabinet pick enjoys broad support among his team and was specially invited to the stage during his victory speech Wednesday morning.
"Susie is tough, smart, innovative and universally admired and respected. Susie will continue to work tirelessly to make America great again," Trump said of the 67-year-old Florida-born Wiles.
The role of chief of staff is usually the first major personnel choice for a new president.
"It is a well-deserved honor to have Suzi as the first female chief of staff in the history of the United States. I have no doubt that she will make our country proud," Trump said.
The Associated Press agency states that Wiles is largely responsible for running Trump's campaign, which he considers to be the most disciplined and effective so far.
Wiles is a longtime Florida-based Republican strategist who managed Trump's 2016 and 2020 state campaigns and Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis' successful 2018 bid. Prior to that, she managed Rick Scott's 2010 Florida gubernatorial campaign and briefly served as the presidential campaign manager former Utah governor Jon Huntsman's 2012 campaign.
Wiles also served in the offices of former Jacksonville mayors John Delaney and John Payton.
As part of the election procedure, after the votes have been counted and the results confirmed in all American states, electors will vote nationwide in December.
After that, at the beginning of January, the victory of the Republican candidate and the number of electoral votes he won will be confirmed at a special session of Congress.
The inauguration of President-elect Donald Trump will be held on January 20 in the American capital, Washington.
