Donald Trump and the president of the Palestinian Authority, Mahmoud Abbas, spoke on the phone, and the newly elected US president pledged to work "to end the war", the Palestinian presidency announced this evening.
During the conversation, Abbas wished Trump success and said he was ready to work with him "to achieve a just and complete peace based on international legitimacy," the presidency said in a statement.
According to the same source, Trump, who will return to the White House on January 20, stressed that he will "work to end the war" and that he is "ready to work with President Abbas and stakeholders in the region and in the world to restore peace in region".
Israel, of which the USA is a staunch ally, has been at war with the Palestinian Hamas in the Gaza Strip since October 7, 2023, but also with the Lebanese Hezbollah on its northern border.
Both groups are supported by Iran.
