Projections show that in the US presidential election, Donald Trump won the US state of Arizona, which means he won all seven states that were considered swing states.
After four days of counting, Arizona is the last American state to announce the result, Trump now has 312 electoral votes, and Democratic rival Kamala Harris has 226, the BBC reports.
A candidate needs to win 270 out of 538 electoral votes to enter the White House.
In addition to Arizona, Trump also won the other six swing states - Michigan, Pennsylvania, Georgia, North Carolina, Wisconsin and Nevada.
Voters did not choose directly for Harris (60) or for Trump (78), but chose electors, Democrats or Republicans, who formally elect the president in December (electoral college). That act is a formality, because electors in December almost without exception vote for the candidate they represented in the elections - this year for Harris or Trump. This is why the winner of the election is known as soon as the votes are counted.
Each of the 50 states has as many electors as it has members in the US Congress, while the District of Columbia provides three members of the electoral college. A candidate who wins a state gets all of its electors, except for Maine and Nebraska.
