North Korea's engagement in the Ukrainian conflict requires a firm response, US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said today in Brussels, during a visit to the NATO command.
"North Korean forces engaged in combat and now literally in conflict - that new element requires a strong response, and it will be," Blinken told reporters, accompanied by NATO Secretary General Mark Rute.
The US confirmed yesterday that North Korean soldiers are involved in combat operations in the Russian region of Kursk, a small part of which was occupied by Ukrainian forces.
Blinken expressed concern about the globalization of the Ukrainian conflict and called for closer cooperation.
"One of the things that NATO has accomplished over the years is to strengthen ties with partners in the Indo-Pacific region, and we will do that even more in the coming weeks and months," he said.
On January 20, the administration of US President Joseph Biden will be replaced by the administration of the newly elected President Donald Trump. Europeans fear that this change in the White House will lead to a reduction in American engagement on the European continent and an end to US military support for Ukraine.
