The Lebanese army announced this evening that three of its soldiers were killed when an Israeli airstrike hit their position in the south, and Lebanon's health ministry announced that eight people were wounded.

"The Israeli enemy targeted a military position in the town of Sarafand in the south, killing three soldiers," the army said, according to Israeli media reports from Agence France-Presse.

The Ministry of Health stated that among the wounded were civilians who were in the vicinity of the attack.

The Israeli army had no immediate comment.

Meanwhile, she accused the Lebanese Hezbollah of firing rockets that hit two UN peacekeeping bases in Lebanon.

In one of those incidents, four members of the peacekeeping mission from Ghana were wounded, three of whom were hospitalized, the Associated Press reported.

Four UN peacekeepers were wounded today in southern Lebanon when a rocket hit a base.

Another base was previously damaged by rocket fire and a patrol was fired upon.

The UN Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) said a rocket hit the base of the mission from Gaza in the eastern village of Ramjah, injuring four peacekeepers, three of whom were hospitalized.

In the village of Shama, where fierce fighting between the Lebanese Hezbollah and the Israeli army took place, five rockets damaged the headquarters of the UNIFIL Western Sector.

UN forces said it was the second attack on the base in a week, but that no one was injured.

In another attack, an armed person fired directly at a UNIFIL patrol near Kirbit Silim, but there were also no injuries, according to the statement.

UNIFIL added that it launched an investigation into all those violent incidents and informed the Lebanese army about them.

"UNIFIL once again reminds all those involved in the continuation of hostilities to respect the inviolability of members of the UN peacekeeping forces and their premises," it was stated in the statement.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced today, visiting the Necarim Corridor in the central part of the Gaza Strip, that Hamas will not rule that territory, and that anyone who hurts the Israeli hostages will pay dearly.

Netanyahu assessed that the Israeli soldiers "achieved excellent results towards the important goal, that Hamas does not rule in Gaza," Israeli media reported.

"We are destroying his military capabilities in a very impressive way and we are going towards his capabilities to govern. Hamas will not be in Gaza," the Israeli leader said.

He toured the Necarim Corridor accompanied by Defense Minister Israel Katz, Chief of Army Staff Lt. Gen. Herzi Halevi and Chief of the Internal Security Service Ronen Bar.

The Israeli Prime Minister also said that Israel is doing everything it can to bring home the hostages and is not giving in, and that it will continue until "it reaches everyone, both living and dead."

Referring to those holding hostages, Netanyahu threatened that anyone who hurts them will be held responsible.

"We will pursue you and we will catch you," said the Prime Minister of Israel.

He also repeated an offer to give five million dollars to anyone in Gaza who hands over a hostage to Israel.

"The decision is in your hands, but the result will be the same. We will bring everyone home," Netanyahu said.

More than 200 children have been killed and 1.100 injured in Lebanon in the last two months, said today the spokesperson of the International Fund for Children and Youth of the United Nations (UN) UNICEF, reports Reuters.

"The number is over 200 (killed children) in the last two months alone. That's at least 231 since the start of the war last year," James Elder said at a press briefing in Geneva in response to a reporter's question about casualties.

He did not comment on who was responsible for the killings, saying it was clear to anyone who follows the media.

About 40 missiles were fired at Israel today from the direction of Lebanon, the Israeli army announced, adding that four people were slightly injured in the attacks.

The military said that about five missiles were identified in the Sharon Valley and in the Tel Aviv metropolitan area, as well as about 25 missiles in the Galilee and about ten in the north of that region.

The sirens went off.

The military said some missiles were intercepted, while others landed in unpopulated areas.

The Lebanese pro-Iranian movement Hezbollah fired about 100 missiles in the direction of Israel yesterday.

US envoy Amos Hochstein landed in Beirut on Tuesday for talks with officials on a truce between the Hezbollah group and Israel, Lebanon's state news agency reported, hours after a Washington-drafted proposal was approved by the Iran-backed group.

The visit marks progress in diplomacy led by the United States of America (US) to end the conflict that escalated into full-scale war in late September, when Israel launched a major offensive against Iran-backed Hezbollah.

Both the Lebanese government and Hezbollah agreed to the US ceasefire proposal submitted in writing last week and made some comments on the content, Ali Hassan Khalil, an aide to Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri, told Reuters on Monday.

There was no comment from Israel.

A diplomat familiar with the talks warned that details must be worked out and could still stall a final agreement.

Khalil said Israel was trying to negotiate "under fire," referring to the escalation of bombing of Beirut and southern suburbs controlled by Hezbollah.

"This will not affect our position," he said.

He declined to detail comments Lebanon made on the draft, but said they were presented "in a positive atmosphere" and in accordance with UN Security Council Resolution 1701, which ended the last war between Hezbollah and Israel in 2006.

Its terms require Hezbollah to have no armed presence in the area between the Lebanese-Israeli border and the Litani River, which flows some 30 km north of the border.
