US President-elect Donald Trump is considering selecting former intelligence chief Richard Grenell as special envoy for the Russia-Ukraine conflict, four sources have confirmed.
Grenell, who, during Trump's presidency from 2017 to 2021, was ambassador to Germany, and special envoy for negotiations between Serbia and Kosovo and acting director of national intelligence, will play a key role in Trump's efforts to stop the war if elected , writes Reuters.
While there is currently no special envoy dedicated solely to resolving the Russian-Ukrainian conflict, Trump is considering one, sources said.
Grenel advocated the creation of "autonomous zones" as a means of conflict resolution. He also said that he would not be in favor of Ukraine joining NATO in the near future.
Donald Trump, who will assume the presidential position on January 20, criticized the strong support that former President Joe Biden gave to Kiev and said that he will demand that the Russian war in Ukraine be ended as soon as possible.
