Several people were killed in a stadium stampede after fans clashed at a soccer match on Sunday in the southeastern Guinean city of Nzerekore, the country's prime minister said, as an opposition group cited reports of dozens killed.
Videos and pictures posted online show victims on the ground.
A dozen bodies could be counted on one video, and several of them were children's.
Reuters did not confirm the authenticity of the footage or confirm the death toll.
The unverified images also show fans climbing over the walls of the stadium, according to Reuters.
"Government regrets the incidents that disrupted the football match between the teams of Labe and Nzerekore this afternoon in Nzerekore. Casualties were recorded during the stampede," Prime Minister Mamadu Ouri Ba said in a statement.
He said that local authorities are working to restore order.
The opposition group said dozens of people were killed, adding that the final death toll had not yet been determined.
Local media reported that the stampede occurred after a fight broke out among spectators during the match on Sunday afternoon following a disputed referee's decision.
"Violence quickly escalated and scenes of panic gripped the stadium, while police fired tear gas," local media outlet Panorama Guinea reported.
The opposition group National Alliance for Change and Democracy said the authorities bear "significant responsibility for these grave events".
The match was the final of a tournament in honor of Guinean warlord Mamadi Dumbuya.
