The newly elected President of the United States of America (USA) Donald Trump said today that Syrian President Bashar al-Assad fled the country, as he lost the support of Russia.
"Assad is gone. His protector Russia, led by Vladimir Putin, is not interested in protecting him anymore," Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform.
Meanwhile, the senior diplomat of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Anwar Gargash, did not respond to a direct question about whether ousted Syrian President Assad is fleeing to that country, saying that it is "a footnote in history."
There is speculation that Assad could flee to the UAE, where his extended family owns property, Israeli media reported. A flight tracking app showed private jets flying between Damascus and the UAE yesterday.
Assad, who ruled Syria for almost 25 years, allegedly left Damascus and went to an unknown location, according to agencies.
